Do you have a long term hair loss condition?

If you do and you wear headwear on a regular basis, either with or without wigs we’d love to hear from you. We’re often asked by clients what styles do we recommend for Alopecia. Understandably women in this situation wish to avoid similarities with ‘cancer patient’ wear and the questions that can follow, if this assumption has been made. At Suburban Turban our mission has always been to design stylish headwear and then adapt it for hair loss wear. We understand the fundamental concerns of complete and secure coverage and we then move on to consider and design new range items for their good looks.

We’d like to ask all our Alopecia clients for their help and would love to hear your feedback. When we started (over 11 years ago now) I sat down with a group of ladies with Alopecia who invited me to lunch. They wanted to discuss ideas for items they couldn’t find and felt should be available. This is any designer’s dream (!) to get this sort of direct feedback, to hear what would really help and what items would be useful day to day.

From that meeting came the real hair fringe head band and the non-slip exercise hat . Both great ideas but it was the personal experience talked about at that meeting that made them really special. Real bio hair was seen as a top priority so that you could style, wash, trim and completely personalise it. The long hair side sections of the hair fringe were seen as ‘essential’ too, so that you could wear it with hair tucked behind your ears for a more relaxed ‘realistic’ look. For the exercise hat it was easy to come up with a silicon backed elastic to prevent the hat slipping but in terms of comfort, it was the feedback that essentially helped us develop an easy to wear concealed headband without compromising the secure fit.

We are about to extend our exercise headwear range and would love your ideas on what colours you like to wear and for what activity. A soft modern swim hat has already been requested – easy to put on and flattering with today’s swimwear. Prints – bold geometric patterns often work well in fitness wear or does that restrict in terms of what you can wear with it? Do you like wearing bold colours and prints on your head, or would you prefer soft muted shades – greys, mauves? Or do you simply have a splendid idea for a headwear item that you just can’t find, please share it.

We are also looking to extend our wide headband range, following the great feedback on our infinity head band. Again if you have definite ideas about the volume and look you are trying to create then please describe it to us and we’ll do our best to interpret that in modern fabrics that wear well. It is this personal experience and feedback that really helps us personalise our product range and differentiates it from the mass market.

We’d love to hear your thoughts please respond here on Facebook or contact us via the website . All feedback will be considered and all correspondence will of course be received in confidence – we may even initiate our first Alopecia in-house ‘think tank’ lunch!  For any contributions that move forward to design we would of course reciprocate in the very best way we know how and give away some of our stylish headwear!
