A rather special announcement today! This year, Boots UK, in partnership with the Daily Mail and This Morning, have just launched the Health Hero Awards 2014 to recognise those in all walks of life (carers, healthcare professionals, friends and family and more) who make a difference to our lives during periods of illness.

We'd love it if our customers, followers and friends wished to nominate our founder, Nicky, but, above all and most importantly, we want to spread the word and encourage as many people as possible to nominate a Health Hero who has made a difference to their lives, or the lives of those close to them. Nicky, who trained in millinery at Chelsea and the London College of Fashion, spent 10 years creating stunning hats for the "Season" before attending a GRACE (Gynae-oncology Research and Clinical Excellence) charity fashion show. The rest, as they say, is history! At the event, women told Nicky that there was a real need for truly stylish, fashionable headwear options for women with hair loss. Suburban Turban was born.

We are consistently encouraged and truly moved by the wonderful, positive and generous feedback about the difference that discovering and wearing Nicky's creations has made to women's self-confidence. She is, too, always on hand in Suburban Turban's Surrey studio to help guide women towards finding headwear which makes them feel truly them - rather than 'wearing the badge of Chemo, at what is already a hugely difficult and challenging time' - as she explained in this recent guest post on the blog.

A great example of Nicky's passion for enabling women experiencing hair loss to feel their confident, fabulous best at this very difficult time is her decision to create her new, absolutely beautiful headwear for brides, more on this soon, who are experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment (or for other reasons). It's wonderful to see such Awards and campaigns recognising all those who make a difference in very different ways. To nominate your Health Hero, simply click here or grab a leaflet from a Boots store. Nominations close on Tuesday, 20 May - so there's still plenty of time to get nominating!
