November can be a funny old month. Speaking for myself I have to wise up to the fact that Christmas really is only round the corner, and this signifies weeks of being unable to park in a car park…anywhere. (Some of you will be saying ‘no change there!’, if you are regularly visiting hospital car parks.) You may not be feeling hugely excitable over the prospect of Christmas – I’m in this camp – whereas my daughter is asking when she can set to with the Christmas tree!

However the idea of some good times with friends can get us in the mood and provide an excellent opportunity to put our glad rags on. Here at the Suburban Turban studio we’ve been putting a few ‘glad rags’ ideas together for you, so that whatever the event you can feel you have something to wear.

First up is the new Beatrix jersey style with black satin flower detail. This is a dramatic ‘little black dress’ of a hat! Supremely elegant, it only requires a little make-up, music and lights! Lizzie and Bea are soft black jersey styles that can be worn with evening separates. Bea is casual and not quite so dressy, yet eye catching with its distinctive cream trim.

If black is not a colour you wear or find hard to wear around the face, Inga provides a chic alternative. We can’t quite decide what to call this colour, it looks a very dark grey with a bluey tinge. When out and about last month I was with a client who tried on a black hat followed by the Inga – Cobalt Grey (thinking that both hats were black), you could instantly see that the Inga was less draining on the skin tone. Jenny is another style that comes in darker ‘neutral’ shades that you could dress up or down with evening wear – a classic turban that has a timeless elegance. It can look stunning with diamante (if you’re really ‘dressing to impress’) or understated with a more dramatic ‘evening’ make-up. Most of us like to wear black for the evening, but it is worth bearing in mind that darker shades for hats can be more flattering and sit equally well with evening wear.

Bella is a be-jewelled ‘smoking cap’ of a style. There are no gem stones attached to it but the trim fabric contains some fantastic colours – ochre, deep cerise, garnet green. No one colour seems to dominate, so it is a versatile style that can be worn with a range of colours/outfits. Diva and Miranda are for the inner showgirl that lurks in us all! Lots of our clients ask us for something a little unique, perhaps a little zany for evening wear. If you are in the mood for some light relief than these may well be the styles for you.

So in the words of that excellent Shania Twain song – ‘The best thing about being a woman, is the prerogative to have a little fun….’ I hope this Season you have as much festive fun as you can handle!
