Think you don’t look good in hats? Many people are under the impression headwear doesn’t work for them. The truth is, everyone is a hat person. The secret is finding the correct style that works for you. The secret is to find headwear that compliments your face shape. Our headwear for hair loss can provide the coverage you need with the style you want.

Square Shaped Faces

Square shaped faces have a wide strong jawline. Hats with a brim can visually narrow a wider face. Styles with circular elements can help soften a square face. Headwear with round crowns and brims are good choices.

Channel your inner Downton Abbey and wear a cloche. Berets are another great option - the fuller width of the hat style balances the strong lines of a square face. Tilting your hat off to the side can help, as can asymmetrical hats and turbans.

Our soft wool Clodagh Cap (seen above) adds height in the crown and added width at the temples. This style works well for square faces. It's fullness of fabric around the head draws the attention away from the jaw line.  It creates a complimentery head shape and our attention is drawn more to the eyes and the rest of the face.

Avoid hats with short brims, no brims, or hats or turbans with a square shape. Celebrities with square faces include Amy Poehler and Selena Gomez

Oval Shaped Faces

Oval faces are longer than they are wide and chin and forehead are about the same width. Lucky for those with oval-shaped faces, they look good in almost any style of headwear.

The only thing to avoid is a hat or turban that adds a lot of height at the crown. This can make your face look even longer. Oval faces are often also sometimes called oblong faces, depending on the length of the face versus the width. If your face is a bit more long and narrow than most, headwear is the perfect way to balance that out.

Hats with brims can visually divide the length of your face, making it seem less elongated. Decorative trim and other side details work for oval faces, as well. Here our Classic Striped Scarf adds elegance, while the fold on the side balances out a longer face. The curved lines of the turban work perfectly with our model’s oval shaped face.

Famous faces with oblong faces include Pink, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna, Nicole Murphy, and Anne Hathaway.

Ordering the Right Headwear

Don’t forget, in addition to finding the right headwear for your face shape, it’s important to measure your head so that it fits well. Our guide to how to get your hat measurements is located here.

Other than buying the wrong hat for their face shape, poor fit is the second most common mistake new hat wearers make. That’s why we make all our styles to size, to ensure your hat looks great and fits comfortably.
