Get ready to hit the town in Suburban Turban’s Marcelle & Brooch pin

It still feels pretty wintry and the early Spring sunshine lacks any real warmth, so there’s a real need to keep your head warm through February and into March. Hats, scarves, and turbans provide opportunities to try different styles, colours, and patterns for every occasion whilst remaining comfortable as the temperatures swing back and forth. For those of us with hair loss and perhaps facing chemo and other serious medical conditions, looking and feeling our best is even more important. In the cold weather everyone is wearing hats, so its easy to blend in and feel comfortableHere’s help finding headwear for hair loss that will look great on you, keep you cosy and accent your personal style.

Considering Switching to a Hat or Turban?

For many of us, wearing a hat or other head covering instead of a wig can be a big step. When faced with hair loss from chemo or other medical issues, often the first option we explore is wearing a wig in order to look as unchanged as possible. While wigs can work well, they can also be hot and uncomfortable to wear for longer periods. It can also be time consuming to wash and style wigs for regular use. Many of us find that hats, turbans, and scarves provide the optimal combination of style, comfort, and convenience, particularly in the winter.

If you’ve been thinking of trying out other kinds of headwear, winter can be the perfect time – everyone is wearing them to keep warm. This can make it easier to ease into a new style without feeling conspicuous. Hats, scarves, and turbans made from breathable materials are particularly great at going from indoors to outdoors and back, in comfort and style. If you are already faced with health issues, there is a very real need to keep warm and avoid the winter bugs.

Any change in style can be an adjustment. If you feel nervous venturing outside without a wig for the first time, you are not alone. Here are some hints to make the process a little easier. First, pick a headwear style that you find fun and makes you feel confident. If it’s a little bolder than you’d usually wear, that’s fine – don’t discard it before trying it! Just like adding highlights or a new haircut, a small change can make a big difference.

Once you’ve picked out a hat you like, if you are still feeling a bit nervous, get feedback from a positive, supportive friend. Wear your headwear for the first time with your friend as moral support. Alternatively, take a field trip in your new headwear to somewhere you won’t run into anyone you know. You’ll be instantly reassured how few people are looking at you (!) and that people are just too busy to notice. Once you’re comfortable and confident, it will be easy to incorporate this headwear into your regular routine. Many women remark on how many compliments they receive when stepping out in new headwear.

Winter is the perfect time to try out hats and other headwear styles. They’re good for additional warmth in the cold and you can always mix and match with your wig, wearing a hat over the top when the temperatures really drop.
