Embrace the winter with these tips on finding the perfect headwear. Materials are particularly important when dealing with winter’s extreme temperature differences. Read on to find your best options to stay stylish and comfortable from the cold winds outdoors to a toasty seat by the fire. Winter is the best time for hats and other headwear. Here’s help finding headwear for hair loss that will look great on you, keep you cosy and accent your personal style.

Materials

Often hats look great in the store but don’t work in real life. The problem is most types are winter headwear only designed to be worn while outside. That might work perfectly for people planning to wear hats either for short periods of time, or whilst skiing or other outside activities. For all day wear, headwear needs to be made from lighter, breathable fabrics. It is particularly important that women with hair loss have headwear that is made to be comfortable in a variety of temperatures.

Two of the most common materials used in winter hats are acrylic and wool. Acrylic is an inexpensive man-made fibre and not the softest of fabrics to wear. Another disadvantage – acrylic doesn’t breathe very well. This can make it perfect outside and then uncomfortable inside, as heat and moisture accumulate. Wool is both warm and breathable. Unfortunately, some people are sensitive to wool and many find felted wool in close contact with a bare scalp simply too itchy. For those who love the style and warmth of felted wool hats but want to avoid direct contact here are a couple of useful tips.  Firstly consider layering your hats and placing a simple beanie style made of jersey under your outdoor hat.  Nobody will notice with your hat pulled down low. Or make a feature of layering and wear a beautiful lightweight print silk scarf under your hat, tied off in a bow at the nape of the neck – both ensure comfort and you won’t overheat.

Polar fleece is a soft, touchable fabric that can be used for both casual and formal looks. This versatile fabric is often the fabric of choice for winter hat styles simply because it comes in numerous colours, patterns, and weights. For the same reasons above be a little wary of overheating when wearing it.  If you love it, or live in very cold winter temperatures it is an excellent man-made fibre in which to stay warm.  You don’t have to miss out, simply layer your hats again and ensure you’ve got something soft and cosy next to your head.
